About us
Trubar Forum Association
A voluntary, non-profit and independent association that translates Trubar into modern language.
Who we are
The Trubar Forum (Združenje Trubarjev forum) is a voluntary, non-profit and independent association of people and organisations who want to preserve, cultivate, spread and continue the evangelical and Protestant heritage of the Reformation in culture, society and faith.
Anyone who knows Trubar will admit that, for all the fine words and memorials, Trubar would surely have wished for something more. We can rightly say that, true to his practical nature and practical theology, Trubar would call his “dear Slovenes” today to a personal spiritual reformation, just as he did five hundred years ago.
That is why one of the main goals of the Trubar Forum is to translate Trubar’s most important writings into modern language. Today Slovenes rightly value and respect Trubar: he was one of the few people in our history without whom our past and present would be very different. The problem is that, apart from experts, most of us cannot read what he wrote, and so most people still cannot grasp the meaning of his words. That is the gap we are working step by step to close.
Our first project appeared in June 2008: Trubar’s “Sermon on Faith” (from the 1550 Catechism). The second Slovene book, the Abecedarium (1550), followed in October 2008, and the Catechism (1550) in October 2009. In 2011 we published Dalmatin’s translation of the Gospel of John, and in 2014 Trubar’s Church Order together with the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU). In 2017 the printed edition of Dalmatin’s translation of the whole New Testament appeared.
