Trubar’s most important message, which still touches us deeply today, comes from his deep and heartfelt reading of the Bible. More than any earlier preacher of the gospel, Trubar showed Slovenes a God who is approachable, who truly loves all people, forgives sins and accepts everyone.
God’s character and actions are marked by grace freely given: to the person who is aware of and admits his weakness and shortcomings, God gives everything freely and without cost – forgiveness, grace, justification, eternal life and, through the Holy Spirit, even himself.
This wonderful gift is the fruit of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross, in which God’s love and goodness finally overcame human sin, hatred and death. At the same time it is the experience of a new, completely different, eternal life, shown in Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Trubar invites every Slovene who reads the translated Bible to come straight to this God. He is convinced that through God’s word every person can come to know God’s grace and goodness and draw near to God personally and directly, with simple faith in Jesus and honest prayer. Prayer, as the answer to God’s word, is “a true, heartfelt and friendly conversation with God”.
