Anyone with a Slovene one-euro coin in their pocket knows the words “stati inu obstati” – “stand and withstand”. Few people know where they come from or what they mean. The answer is in the first Slovene book, Trubar’s Catechism of 1550, in the part we call the Sermon on Faith.

The e-book Stati in obstati gives this sermon side by side in Trubar’s Slovene and in the modern language. Trubar explains what true faith is: firm trust in God’s promises, even when we don’t yet see or feel them. With such faith, he says, a Christian can “stand and withstand” in troubles and temptations.

It opens with a short introduction explaining why Trubar is still worth reading today. He did not write for fame or wealth; he only wanted his people to be able to stand and withstand.

The e-book is in Slovene. The printed booklet Sermon on Faith is also available in English, German and Esperanto – you can order it on the Books page.
